Claudio Coria joined the Arizona Department of Education as Chief of Staff in January 2020. Previously, he served as the Executive Director for Leadership in the Phoenix Union High School District, overseeing principals and leadership development across the district. A product of the 'Teach for America' program, Coria began his career as a bilingual junior high teacher in the Roosevelt School District. He has also served as an assistant principal, and as a principal in both middle and high school settings. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies and a Master’s of Educational Administration from ASU. Mr. Coria has shared his talents and time with several community and volunteer efforts; including five years with the Arizona State Board of Education Professional Practices Advisory Committee. During his tenure as principal of Alhambra High School, the school received the Beat the Odds Gold School award for sustained academic achievement. Mr. Coria has dedicated 24 years of his professional life to serving Arizona teachers and students and is a strong believer in the power of public education.
